Portreath to The Lizard an 87 mile section of The South West Coast Path

The Far West offers the chance to take in the rugged North Coast as well as the sheltered coves of the South Coast. Here you will find St Ives, Land’s End, The Minack Theatre, and Mousehole. Finishing at Lizard Point, the most southerly point in the England.

  • Portreath to Hayle - 12 miles
    Leaving Portreath the path sticks close to the cliffs and has some amazing views of rocky coves including Ralph’s Cupboard. The path is mostly flat but only a couple of steep climbs. Seals, basking sharks, dolphins and sun fish are all sighted from North Cliffs.
  • Hayle to St Ives - 6 miles
    An mainly flat easy days walking following the path around the edge of the Saltings home of many different species of birds. You will then follow the railway line through Carbis bay and into St Ives, home of the Tate Gallery and 4 beaches.
  • St Ives to Pendeen Watch - 14 miles
    A very difficult walk, this is one of the toughest sections of the entire coast path. Leaving St Ives with a gentle walk the path soon becomes boggy with many descents and ascents into beautiful coves. Nowhere else on the coast path will you feel isolation quite like this section.
  • Pendeen Watch to Sennen Cove - 9 miles
    Leaving Pendeen Lighthouse and round Cape Cornwall where the Atlantic currents merge the path is a mixture of easy open cliff walking and rough ascents and descents. Seals are common along with many varieties of seabirds.
  • Sennen Cove to Lamorna Cove - 12 miles
    Leave the golden sands of Sennen behind before passing the Land’s End complex and onto the south coast. Fantastic views of Bishop’s Rock Lighthouse and the Isles of Scilly can be seen.
  • Lamorna Cove to Marazion - 9 miles
    Leave the sub tropical cove of Lamorna behind the path sticks to the rugged cliffs before entering the quant fishing village of Mousehole. The remainder of the days walk is mainly on tarmac as you wander round the bay with some stunning views of St Michael’s Mount.
  • Marazion to Porthleven - 11 miles
    Leaving the Medieval market town of Marazion the path enjoys some wonder views of the Mounts Bay. Passing sandy coves before the rugged scenery around Rinsey Head.
  • Porthleven to The Lizard - 14 miles
    Leave Porthleven and enter the Lizard National Nature Reserve where you will find amazing fauna. Mullion, Predannack Cliffs and Kynance Cove are all highlights of the days walking.
